Weather: What to expect around SA for Thursday’s public holiday

After Freedom Day was observed on Monday, South Africans can now look forward to another public holiday on Thursday for Workers’ Day.

In terms of the weather forecast in major cities around South Africa, there is a fair bit of rain forecast for Thursday’s public holiday around South Africa according to the largely reliable WindGuru forecaster.

In Johannesburg, a warm day can be expected as temperatures reach a high of 23°C, but there is expected to be a fair bit of cloud cover around, while there is also predicted to be some slight showers in the late afternoon and into the evening.

Heading down the coast, Durban looks set for a typically hot and humid day, with heavy cloud cover and early morning showers. Peak temperatures will hover around the early 20s, but there could be some fairly heavy torrential downpours in the evening.

Other public holiday weather to expect in SA

Continuing down the coast to Gqeberha, Thursday looks set to be a mild and pleasant day, with a high of 19°C, and mostly clear skies. However, the Windy City will be living up to its name with indications for strong winds – particularly in the afternoon – when the wind gusts could reach up to 32 knots.

Heading down to the Mother City, it’s predicted to be a chilly public holiday for Cape Town on Thursday as temperatures are only expected to hit a ‘high’ of 15°C.

There could also be some light rain in the morning, with some low level cloud cover and light winds predicted for most of the day.
