According to the SA Weather Service, the heavy rainfall experienced this week will clear over the weekend in many parts of the country.
While there is a chance of rain showers in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday, Sunday is forecast to be clear, with rising temperatures in most regions.
KZN has experienced disruptive rainfall since Wednesday, which is expected to continue until Saturday.
Just four months into 2025, Durban has already received a significant amount of rainfall. According to TrafficSA, the city received 45 mm of rain overnight on Monday, surpassing its annual rainfall for the year at this early stage.
Rain makes way this weekend as the weather improves
For the rest of the country, the weekend is expected to bring generally fine weather, with sunshine anticipated in many areas. Johannesburg is expected to enjoy clear and sunny skies on both Saturday and Sunday, with temperatures peaking in the low 20s. Expect chilly mornings; however, the weather is expected to improve as the day progresses in several provinces.
On Friday, Durban will experience heavy rainfall, but conditions are expected to improve by Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, Cape Town will see warm temperatures accompanied by cloudy and overcast conditions on Saturday, reaching a high of 21°C.
Sunny weather conditions are expected in most parts of SA this weekend
In KwaZulu-Natal, a mop-up operation is planned in several areas beginning Saturday, following three days of heavy rainfall in the province. For the rest of the country, the weather is expected to improve on Saturday and Sunday following a cut-off low system.
