Orlando Pirates face Egyptian side Pyramids FC over two legs in the Champions League semi-finals. Here’s all you need to know.
Orlando Pirates vs Pyramids: Key Champions League details
The Sea Robbers welcome Pyramids FC to Orlando Stadium on Saturday, 19 April at 18:00 for the first leg. The second leg is on Friday, 25 April, in Egypt.
Likely Pirates XI: Nkota deserves his place
A trio of central defenders Tapelo Xoki, Nkosinathi Sibisi and Mbekezeli Mbokazi, dealt with everything thrown at them by a pacey MC Alger attack in a tricky first-leg tie. It was a pragmatic, sensible approach from head coach Jose Riveiro, and it paid dividends. Jose Riveiro made only one change to that starting XI for the second leg, with Mohau Nkota coming into the attack instead of Kabelo Dlamini. Given that Nkota scored the only goal in Algeria, he’s got a good chance of starting the semi-final first leg against Pyramids at Orlando Stadium. He’s the youngest player in Pirates history to score three away goals in a single Caf Champions League campaign.
Mayele is the danger man
Meanwhile, reported Kaizer Chiefs target Fiston Mayele will spearhead the Pyramids attack. The 30-year-old Congolese marksman has 19 caps for Congo and a remarkable six goals from nine Champions League outings this term. Overall, he’s scored 19 times in 33 appearances in Africa’s premier club competition.
