Yusuf Maart breaks silence on Kaizer Chiefs future amid shocking rumours.
The Amakhosi captain has finally addressed the swirling news about his future at Naturena, delivering a clear message ahead of the high-stakes Soweto Derby.
The 29-year-old midfield general, who joined Amakhosi from Sekhukhune United, has recently been at the centre of intense speculation. Reports linked him with a potential return to Sekhukhune, as his initial three-year contract neared its end this season.
Sekhukhune’s bold attempt to bring Maart back
Sekhukhune United made no attempt to hide their desire to re-sign Maart. They view him as a key figure, someone who once captained them to promotion and broke into Bafana Bafana while wearing their armband. But Chiefs weren’t willing to let him go so easily.
Determined to keep their midfield leader, Kaizer Chiefs exercised the extension clause in his contract. According to inside sources, both parties have also reached an agreement in principle for an additional year, effectively securing his services beyond this season.
Maart unfazed by transfer talk
Despite the media frenzy, Maart insists the speculation hasn’t shaken his focus or mindset.
“As a footballer you always need to be strong and expect anything in life because there’s only one almighty at the end of the day, he can only put things out for you in a different way, but only if you can help yourself he’ll help you at the end of the day,” Maart said.
“So my mood, my mind will always be the person that I am. I’m always going to be the positive person, always a hard-working person, so there’s no changes [in my mindset based on the speculation].”
His calm demeanor and strong mentality reflect his leadership on and off the pitch.
Ready for war in the Soweto Derby
Maart has made 30 appearances across all competitions this season. His form and presence will be crucial as Chiefs prepare for their massive clash against rivals Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium this Saturday.
With his future now potentially settled, Maart looks set to lead the charge in one of the most anticipated fixtures on the South African football calendar
