Zwane: ‘It was a wrong move to leave Sundowns’

Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Siyanda Zwane has revealed that moving to Ajax Cape Town was probably a career-defining error.

LEAVING MAMELODI SUNDOWNS ON LOAN

The former defender began his career at Golden Arrows before making the dream move to Chloorkop. As is often the case with newcomers to the club, Zwane struggled to win a starting place. “I stayed there for two and a half years,” Zwane said on Metro FM.

“The other part of the season, I went on loan to Ajax Cape Town. Mushin [Ertugrul] called me and said, ‘I can see you’re not playing. I’m going to Ajax; would you mind joining me there’?

“The regret came when I thought that, based on the way I had performed at Ajax, Sundowns would call me back. So, when they didn’t call me back, that’s when the regret kicked in that maybe it was a wrong move to leave Sundowns to join Ajax on loan,” Zwane added on the national radio show, as per FARPost.

“Normally, when a player goes on loan, their contract is frozen. However, when I went to Ajax, I thought I would return to Sundowns and finish my contract.

“But they said they didn’t freeze my contract; therefore, my contract with them is over. I had to find a team after that.”
